Lisa Alford

Lisa Alford is the Science Coordinator and Senior Science Technician at Tonbridge School, a Registered Scientist, and a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry. In her role, she plays a key part in fostering a vibrant scientific community within the school and beyond.

Lisa organises cross-disciplinary events that promote collaboration and knowledge exchange across diverse scientific fields. She orchestrated the popular “Science Snippets: 4 Minutes to Win It!” competition, giving students an opportunity to share their scientific passions in an engaging and concise format. She has also delivered hands-on Scanning Electron Microscope workshops, leads a Junior Chemistry Society, and supports students in the Science Research Group, encouraging curiosity-driven exploration and skill development.

A dedicated STEM Ambassador, Lisa delivers practical science sessions to Year 6 students, inspiring the next generation of scientists.

As the founder and organiser of the Tonbridge Science Technician Convention, Lisa brings together professionals for networking and professional development.

Lisa is a member of the Royal Society Partnership Grants Allocating Panel, helping to support innovative school-based research projects. She was also awarded the Hauksbee Award by the Royal Society in recognition of her exceptional commitment to science education and collaboration between schools in 2024.

Lisa has spoken at several conferences, most recently presenting on practical science in schools and the evolving role of technicians in STEM education.
