Andrew is the Outreach Manager at the National Physical Laboratory (NPL) explaining STEM work to many thousands of people annually. Prior to that he was a measurement scientist building machines to ‘see’ colour and evaluate light from infrared to UV. He has been involved in mentoring student projects.
Andrew was awarded an MBE for services to STEM and for 20 years has led a large group of scientists and engineers at the UK’s National Metrology Institute in demystifying their work for students, teachers and the general public (where metrology is the science of measurement). To paraphrase the words of Lord Kelvin – to solve a problem you first need to measure it, giving credence to the bold claim that measurement underpins all science. He is a Chartered Physicist.
