Verity Crane is a climate and data specialist working at the intersection of Earth observation, AI, industrial data and quantitative modelling. She leads the manufacturing sector for Climate TRACE, where she develops the data and analytical methods used to monitor global production and emissions down to the level of individual point sources.
Having started out as a journalist, Verity’s career has centred on making complex technical information clear and usable. She has worked extensively with businesses to help them measure and reduce their emissions, but has come to believe that the climate crisis demands a broader, more creative response than organisations can address in silos. Her recent work at TransitionZero looks beyond individual facilities to understand how industrial sectors interact with the wider energy system, and how changes in one part of the system can enable or constrain progress elsewhere.
Verity works closely with environmental campaigners in the steel sector, and her data and analysis are used by governments and international bodies to inform efforts to accelerate change.
