Dr Elisa Bertolesi

Dr Elisa Bertolesi is a Senior Lecturer in Civil Engineering at Cardiff University, specialising in resilient heritage structures, existing infrastructure and the sustainable built environment. With a career spanning Italy, Spain and the UK, she has contributed to enhancing structural robustness and advancing Structural Health Monitoring for heritage and built-environment applications.

As Deputy Research Leader of the Resilient Structures & Construction Materials research group and editor of several scientific international journals, Elisa combines deep technical expertise with international collaboration. She supervises postgraduate researchers and supports interdisciplinary work at the interface of structural engineering, mechanics and sustainability in the built environment.

Beyond her research leadership, Elisa is deeply committed to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion (EDI) in academia. She serves on EDI committees at both school and institutional levels, where she works to promote inclusive research cultures and support equitable career development for underrepresented groups. She is also actively involved in outreach initiatives that inspire young people, particularly girls, to pursue careers in engineering and sustainability.
