Dr. Howard Haughton

Chair

Dr. Howard Haughton is a distinguished scholar and professional with expertise in finance, technology, mathematics, and equity, diversity, and inclusion. He holds a PhD in Mathematical Computer Science from Wolverhampton University and advanced finance qualifications from the Universities of York and Oxford. Dr. Haughton has held key positions at Merrill Lynch, Deutsche Bank, Dresdner Bank, and JP Morgan, as well as major financial institutions in the Caribbean.

As a Senior Visiting Research Fellow at King’s College London, his research focuses on computational finance, AI-driven financial modelling, and risk analysis. He has developed an AI/ML policy framework promoting ethical and inclusive practices across various UK sectors. Dr. Haughton advises governments and financial institutions on corporate governance, ethics, treasury management, risk management, capital markets solutions, and sustainable economic development.

An advocate for diversity in mathematics, Dr. Haughton has been a keynote speaker at the Black Heroes of Mathematics events and contributes to Mathematics Today, highlighting the contributions of Black mathematicians. He chairs the Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion committee at the Institute of Mathematics and its Applications and serves as the Inclusive Leadership Lead Consultant at The Diversity Trust. His book, Woken Leader, shares insights on achieving inclusive leadership and enhancing workplace well-being.

Dr. Haughton also chairs Sporting Equals, promoting diversity within the UK’s sports and physical activity sector. His work continues to influence multiple fields, establishing him as a key figure in promoting diversity, inclusion, and sustainable practices both in the UK and globally.

In the realm of sustainable economic development and debt management, Dr. Haughton co-authored the paper “Alleviating Debt Distress and Advancing the Sustainable Development Goals,” published in Sustainable Development in 2021. This work addresses unprecedented external debt levels in low-income developing countries and least developed countries, proposing strategies to alleviate debt distress and advance sustainable development goals.

Additionally, Dr. Haughton authored a Commonwealth report offering strategies to manage hidden government liabilities in unfunded pensions, loan guarantees, disaster relief, and other contingencies. The report provides a formalized approach to manage these contingent liabilities, giving governments a more accurate picture of their risk levels.

Ann Mroz

Ann Mroz

Ann Mroz is the former editor of the Tes (Times Educational Supplement) and Times Higher Education. She is a trustee of the Reach Foundation, Lift Schools and the Institute for Research in Schools. She is a non-executive director of ICMP (Institute of Contemporary Music Performance) and is on the advisory board of the Children’s Commissioner, the Sutton Trust and Princeton University Press (Europe).

She was awarded an MBE for services to education in the 2021 New year’s Honours List.

Professor Justin Dillon

Professor Justin Dillon

Justin Dillon is professor of science and environmental education in the Centre for Climate Change and Sustainability Education at University College London.

He is Guest Professor at Zhejiang University, China and was the 2024 CJ Koh Professor in Education, at the National Institute for Education, Singapore.

Justin taught science in London schools for 10 years before joining King’s College London in 1989.

In 2014, he was appointed Head of the Graduate School of Education at the University of Bristol. Justin joined the University of Exeter in 2017 where he was Director of Research in the School of Education.

He returned to London in 2022 to take a chair at UCL. Justin was President of the European Science Education Research Association from 2007-11.

He is President of the National Association for Environmental Education, Chair of trustees at the Exeter Science Centre and a trustee of the Council for Learning Outside the Classroom. In 2023, Justin was presented with a Mariano Gago lifetime achievement award by Ecsite, the European association for science and discovery centres, for his commitment to science engagement.

He edits the journal, Studies in Science Education and is Associate Editor of Environmental Education Research.

Professor Becky parker

Professor Becky Parker

Director

After a physics degree and research at the University of Chicago, Becky taught physics and supported school students to work with the UK Space Agency, Surrey Satellite Technology Ltd and NASA putting a payload in space. She developed research projects with CERN, the Wellcome Trust, research institutes and universities.

She founded the Institute for Research in Schools in 2015 to scale this approach across the county.

She still teaches physics and now runs Project Earth, a charity supporting young people around the world to innovate for the planet. Affiliated to The Earthshot Prize and supported by a phenomenal group of expert advisors it is empowering young people to have a genuine impact on their future.

Becky was awarded an MBE in 2008 and Honorary Fellowship of the Institute of Physics in 2014. She is the UK teacher representative on the CERN Teacher Student Forum.

She is Visiting Professor in the School of Physics and Astronomy at Queen Mary, University of London. In the summer of 2016, she was awarded the Kavli Education Medal from the Royal Society.
