Adil Imam is a Principal Lecturer in Engineering at Canterbury Christ Church University and a Sports Engineering with a focus on impact protection. His career is dedicated to the intersection of computational engineering and regulatory governance, focusing on how Finite Element Analysis (FEA) and CAD modelling can be leveraged to create a safer, more inclusive future for athletes and professionals alike.
Adil’s technical rigour has had a direct global impact; his doctoral research, sponsored by World Rugby, led to a pivotal update in Regulation 12, which governs the international standards for body padding in Rugby Union. This ability to translate complex data into policy is further reflected in his role as a committee member for the British Standards Institute (BSI), where he oversees standards for sports safety and Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). With a professional foundation built at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) and the International Tennis Federation (ITF), he brings over 15 years of combined industry and academic expertise to his advisory roles.
At Project Earth, Adil serves as a critical friend and mentor to emerging innovators. He supports them in refining their technical frameworks, ensuring their solutions are grounded in engineering integrity while pushing the boundaries of sustainability and inclusivity. As an active STEM ambassador, he is passionate about demystifying complex engineering concepts to empower the next generation of problem-solvers.
