Melissa is a physics graduate and taught physics for many years, encouraging students to take part in programmes linked to wider issues – sometimes around how physics might help us understand ways to live well and within the means of what our Earth can provide. She is proud to hear about how past students become the change-makers for a sustainable future, but knows that physics can be made more relevant to the lives and future of us all.
Melissa now works with physics teachers on a freelance basis (for instance with the Ogden Trust) and volunteers around sustainability, physics and wildlife. She has written a Carbon Literacy Trust accredited course for teachers of physics, and is keen to help young people learn about applications of physics to sustainability from observations of their school grounds – something there for everyone. She is a Trustee of Catalyst Science Discovery Centre and Museum, based in Widnes: the heart of the chemical NW of England.
